    This journal article examines the use of the fibrinogen/C-reactive protein (CRP) ratio as a diagnostic tool for disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) in patients with HELLP syndrome. The study retrospectively reviewed medical records of pregnancies complicated by HELLP syndrome at a hospital between 2003-2009. The results showed that a lower fibrinogen/CRP ratio was able to more accurately diagnose DIC compared to the traditional DIC scoring system alone. A lower ratio was also found to correlate with worse neonatal outcomes. The article concludes that the fibrinogen/CRP ratio is a useful new parameter for diagnosing DIC and predicting neonatal prognosis in patients with HELLP syndrome.
