Primary: Close-knit. They have a small scale, intimate relationships, usually long lasting.
Members have a strong identity. An example: a nuclear family.
Secondary: Pretty informal. They have tasks instead of relationships, usually short term.
Members meet infrequently. An example: a committee organized to plan a party at work.
Reference: Important. They influence how consumers interpret information and make
purchasing decisions, serve as models or inspiration. Members determine what types of
products youll purchase and which brand of product you choose. An example: celebrities.
What is stratification?
Is the system by which social ranks categories of people in hierarchy. In the United States, for
example, is perfectly clear that some groups have greater power, status, and wealth than other
