93-363

1st Note to students January, 2015 (Important)

Welcome to Course 93-363 (contents include most of 93-426, and 93-224, both are former
courses), and Dr. Seth and I are looking forward to seeing you soon.
Some comments:
1) This course will require you to have background in Introduction to Environment, and
in Fluid Mechanics/Hydraulics.
2) We will have some notes for you that will either be posted or will be distributed in the
class, or both.
3) We strongly recommend that you attend the lectures. It is mandatory to attend the
tutorials and laboratories.
4) We also recommend that you try to obtain at least one of these two books,
if not both. The older editions are very reasonably priced and older editions
will be just fine.
Water Supply and Pollution Control by Viessman and Hammer, by
Prentice Hall, 7th Edition or newer. (a good introductory book)
Unit Operations and Processes in Environmental Engineering by Reynolds
and Richards, ITP Press, either First or Second Edition (a good book for
design)

You can purchase older Editions (as recommended above) of these books through
internet. They are considerably cheaper.
Have a good break and will see you in the New Year.
