A thorough understanding of the theory and applications of solid

mechanics, particularly:
o The mathematics of continuum mechanics.
o The analytical and numerical solution of linear and nonlinear, static
and dynamic problems.
o Advanced nonlinear material modeling such as cyclic plasticity and
metal creep.
o Welding simulation.

Figure below shows the Ramberg-Osgood relationship of true stress-strain curve for
some metallic materials under monotonic loading.
The unloading curve is elastic and parallel to the initial elastic loading line. Plastic
strain results permanent deformation upon unloading.
The true total strain is the summation of elastic strain and plastic strain. Sensitive at
elevated temperature.

Figure below shows the Bauschingers effect of Ramberg-Osgood relationship

of stress-strain curve for some metallic materials under cyclic loadings.
Material yield strength in tension or compression will be reduced after
applying a load of the opposite sign that caused inelastic deformation.
Kinematic hardening rule is normally defined to capture the cyclical response of
Ramberg-Osgood material model in FEA to determine the equivalent nonlinear
elastic stress state of an elastic stress history under cyclic loadings.
