Parts of Speech Study Guide

The Parts of Speech Test will be a summative test covering most of the grammar content that we
have been working on over the past semester. The test is scheduled for Wednesday, February
11.
You must be able to...
--Identify the part of speech of bolded words in context and EXPLAIN how you know
each word is that part of speech
--Supply the definitions/functions of all eight parts of speech (function = what it does)
**Adverbs, adjectives, and conjunctions will be broken into their primary
parts:

Noun
Pronoun
Verb
Preposition
Adjective
Article
Adverb
Coordinating conjunction
Correlative conjunction
Subordinating conjunction
Interjections

--Supply examples of different parts of speech (pronouns and prepositions) that may not
be easily identified by function
--Give examples of first, second, and third person pronouns (both singular and plural)
--Define antecedent
--List the coordinating conjunctions
--Identify the two part of speech the word for can be.
--Explain how you tell which part of speech for is
--List the correlative conjunctions
--List TUBASAW and identify which two parts of speech they can be
--Explain how you tell which part of speech TUBASAW is
--Define a clause and explain the difference between independent clauses and dependent
clauses

--Explain the best way to find subjects and verbs in a sentence
