January Newsletter

Family
Literacy
All of the students have been reading
2
books aloud within their CHP
groups. Please continue reading with your
students at home. We suggest you pick a
book, as families, to read together for 20
minutes each day. Then, discuss the diction
(words used in the reading selection), plot,
and the main ideas of your reading
selection. This will help students become
more confident reading aloud, increase
reading comprehension and improve their
standardized test scores.

Enrichment
Activities
We have teacher led enrichment and
CHP Staff led enrichment. Teachers 3
enrichment have a heavy emphasis on
math and touch on ELA, Science and
current events (Social Studies). CHP Staff
touch on reading on all levels and in all
subjects with all students. Each group has
a book that they are currently reading
aloud together. You are never too old to
learn and progress.

About
the
Students
We are revising how we format the

who attended CHP Parent Night on Thursday, January 15th. Please continue
to support your students in the CHP Program by staying connected,

for all students success. Lets continue to push onto greatness both in and
outside of school and the CHP Program.

Food for Thought: According to the National Education

Association, having kids read a lot is one of the crucial
components of becoming a good reader. Young readers need
to become practiced at recognizing letters and sounds. The
only way to get good at it is to practice.
