Taback, S. (1997). There was an old lady who swallowed a fly. New York: Viking.

This is a very fun book to read to kids and I remember my 1st grade teacher playing the
song that came with it as we all sang along. Singing along with this fun and humorous
book helps build confidence in kids. It also helps convey feeling by reading the book in
the rapid and fluid motion intended by the author. I plan on using this book with my little
brother to teach him how to read in addition to incorporating signing.
Christelow, E. (1989). Five little monkeys jumping on the bed. New York: Clarion
Books.
I chose this book because it is one of my all time favorites and I still to this day
read it to my little brother. This is a very fun book in which kids can dance to and read as
a song. This book is great for teaching chants and can even be played with the song to get
kids active and moving. I very often use this book to help control and release all the
energy in my four year-old little brother.
Kubler, A. (2001). The wheels on the bus: go round and round. Swindon: Child's
Play.
I chose this book because it has a very gentle pace in which students can sing and
it teaches that you can have a lot of fun with music. Many gestures can be incorporated as
students sing along with this book to teach both locomotor and nonlocomoter
movements. It also helps kids with their sense of imagination and teaching the concept of
verses in music.
Cabrera, J. (2008). Old MacDonald had a farm. New York: Holiday House.
I chose this book because I remember my 2nd grade music teacher using this book
to teach us how to make different sounds without the use of instruments. It is very fun to
read and allows kids to imagine certain sounds of the animals in addition to
experimenting with their own musical capabilities.
Hayes, A., & Thompson, K. (1991). Meet the orchestra. San Diego: Harcourt Brace
Jovanovich, Publishers.
I chose this book because it allows for students to learn about musical instruments
in addition to their sounds in a very fun manner. It also allows students to learn about the
experience of attending an orchestra, which I find really amazing. This is a great book to
help students recognize certain musical instruments.
