Lithosphere, Mobile Belts,

Cratons and Kimberlites

Cratons and Mobile Belt are two

main elements of the Earths crust
* Craton is a large stable block of the earths
crust which composed with high degree dry
metamorphic rocks like gneisses, granites
migmatites, crystalline schists mechanically
super hard rocks.
* A mobile belt is an narrow region of crust
experiencing tectonic activity and composed with
much softer rocks which contain water saturated
minerals like muscovite, biotite, actinolite, talc, etc.

Why kimberlite magma choused

erupt through hard solid cratons
ignoring much easier way through
tectonically broken mobile belts?
