Spelling Week 2

1. Rule up correctly and copy these words into your spelling book. Remember date
and title your work.

Weekly spelling tasks to be done in order


1) Use your dictionary to find meanings for 10 of the list words and write these in your
book.
2) A compound sentence is when two simple sentences are connected using a joining
word (conjunction) such as and, because, so etc.
E.g. Assemblies are held in the auditorium because all Middle School students can fit
in there.
Write 10 compound sentences using your list words. Highlight or underline the list
word used.
3) Put all of your list words into alphabetical order.
4) Write each of your list words in syllables. (E.g. Tyn-dale).
5) Look, cover, write, check in preparation for testing on Friday.

Additional tasks for early finishers optional order


1) Create a wordsearch using all of your list words. Ask for a grid sheet from your
teacher for this.
2) Write word pyramids for each of your list words. E.g.

3) Group your list words into nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. Your dictionary may
help with this.
4) Plurals/singular: Plural means that there is more than one item. Singular means that
there is only one item. Change any list words that are singular to plural and any that
are plural to singular.
E.g. desk (singular only one) desks (plural more than one)
5) Synonyms: A synonym is a word which has a similar meaning to another word. Think
of synonyms for as many of your list words as you can.
E.g. desk table
6) Write your list words in fancy writing.
7) Illustrate as many of your list words as you can and write the word underneath.
8) Use the following key to see how much your spelling words are worth by adding
each letter (all in cents).
E.g. program p(3) + r(2) + o(1) + g(4) + r(2) + a(1) + m(2) = 15 cents
