Action of the short rotators.

Contraction when the limb is free to move effect the lateral

movement of the Hip joint.

When the foot is placed on the ground they effect the rotation of
the trunk to the opposite side.

(a)Piriformis Short Rotators(S.R):

Arises from the internal aspect of the wing of the sacrum

Leaves the pelvis through the greater sciatic foramen.

Attaches itself on the femur on the region medial to the greater

trochanter.

(b)Obturator Externus S.R:

Arises from the out ward side of the pelvis on obturator

membrane and the adjoining end of the ischio-pubic ramus.

Passes externally just below the neck of the femur.

Attaches just below Piriformis.

(c)Obturator internus(S.R)

Arises from the wide internal area of the ilium, the ischium and
the obturator membrane.

It leaves the pelvis through the lesser sciatic foramen and does a
90 degree turn before it attatches itself to the femur

As t leaves the pelvis it is joined by two muscles on top and

below;

Gemellus superior

Gemellus inferior

These arise from the external aspect of the ischium

These then inserted just below piriformis

(d)Quadratus Femoris

Arises from the ischial tuberosity just below the acetabulum.

It attaches on the femur on the inter trochanteric crest.
