ACQ202 Intermediate Systems Acquisitions Course (ISAC)

Lesson 1.1 - Considering the Cost

RHOURClS I PRINT I IIElP

Introductionc.. . . .c-__________________________________________________________________________

Clo sed Captio ning

In this lesson we 'll review the Anatysis of Altematives (AoA) and see how it is used to hefp select
the best corocept to meet a capability Meds. We will review the cost estimation methods used to
he lp predict the cost of an acql1isition program. Then we will consider the various types of costs
that are Or.cUfTed during an acql1isition program, the impact of these costs to a program, and how
those costs are typica lly distributed throughout the program's "fe - cycle.
Remember that the acquis ition process involves teamwoO<., and you'll need to chec k with Integrated
Product Team (IPT) members from other functional areas to carry out your assignments .

In this lesson, we leamed that the AoA is a study of the operational effectiveness and life - cycle
cost of a program
program''s a ltematives. It is mandatory for an acquis ition programs, and provides an
objective assessment of the options for meeting mi
millitary capabi
capabillity needs. We a lso leamed that the
AoA is based on information from the lCD, such as functional a reas , range of mil
miliitary operations,
time, and key attributes. We leamed about va""us types of estimation and costing methods such
as: anak>gy, parametric, eflgiMeolru} ( bottom

), actual cost, Top

ly,, we
defined the seven types of costs re lated to an acqlJ
acqlJiisition program and how they a re funded.
Here is a summary of the key information presented", this lesson.
