Oxygen from the

inhaled air diffuses


through the thin wall
of the alveolus into
the blood capillary.

The oxygen is carried


by the blood to all
parts of the body.

At the same time,

carbon dioxide and


water molecules from
the blood capillary
diffuse into the
alveolus.

The carbon dioxide

and water (in the form


of vapour) is expelled
from the body during
exhalation.

Asthma

Asthma is caused
by irritants,
infections or
allergy to animals,
molds, house dust
mites and pollen.
