Monosaccharides

Monosaccharides can be linked together by glycosidic bonds, which can be cleaved

by hydrolysis. Two, three, several or many monosaccharides thus linked form
disaccharides, trisaccharides, oligosaccharides or polysaccharides, respectively.
Enzymes that hydrolyse glycosidic bonds are called "glycoside hydrolases" or
"glycosidases".
