Inordertocreateapositiveclassroomclimate,Iplantodomorningmeetings.I
willgreetstudentsatthedooreachdaywithagoodmorningandhugorhandshake
specifictoeachstudent.Beforebeginningclass,wewillallmeetatthefrontoftheroom
forsharingtime.Eachdaywillbesomethingdifferent,butsharingwillinvolvestudent
volunteerssharinginformationthatisimportanttothemandthetopicthatweare
discussing.Wewillthenhavesometypeofgroupactivity.Thisactivitywillgetthe
studentsupandmovingandworkingtogether.Wewillthenhaveclassroom
announcementsbeforereturningtoourseatsandstartingtheday.
Iplantouseabehaviorcharttomanagebehaviorinmyclassroom.Thischart
willbeimplementedatthebeginningoftheyear.Thisbehaviorchartwillbeginwith
outstandingandthenmovetogreatjob,goodjob,readytolearn,thinkaboutit,slow
down,andfinallyparentcontact.Everystudentwillhaveaclipwithhis/hernameonit.
Eachday,studentsclipswillstartonreadytolearn.Asthedayprogresses,each
studentwillhavetheopportunitytomovehis/herclipuponthechart,orifhe/she
choosesnottofollowourclassroomrulesorprocedures,thentheycouldpotentially
movetheirclipdown.Ifastudentreachesoutstandingforfouroutofthefiveschool
days,thenhe/shewillreceiveastickerorgemoftheirchoicetodecoratetheirclip.Once
acliphasbeenfullydecorated,thatclipwillberetiredandhungintheclassroom.Anew
clipwillbegiventostartthedecoratingprocessover.Ifastudentsbehaviorworsens,
eachtimehe/shemovesdownfromreadytolearnwillserveasawarningorreminder
thattheyneedtochangetheircurrentbehavior.Ifastudentreachesparentcontact,
thenanotewillbesenthome,oraphonecallwillbemade.Ifastudentexhibits
behaviorsthatcouldphysicallyoremotionallyhurthimorherselforothers,hewillbe
senttothenurseorguidancecounselor.
Mybehavioralexpectationsare:
1. Raiseyourhandandwaitforpermissiontospeak.
2. Respectyourpeersandtheirproperty.
3. Listenwhenateacher,facultymemberorotheradultisspeaking.
4. Followdirectionsquicklyandquietly.
5. Alwaystryyourbest!
Inadditiontothisclassroommanagementplan,Iwillsendnoteshometo
acknowledgegreatbehaviordays.Positivefeedbackandpraisewillbegiventothose
whoareontaskandmodelinggoodbehavior.Inordertofosterstudentsintrinsic
motivation,studentswillbeallowedtoworkonprojectsthatrelatetotheirpersonallives.
Anotherwaystudentswillbeintrinsicallymotivatedisbyallowingstudentstoworkwith
theteachertosetapersonalgoalandtracktheirprogressuntilthegoalhasbeenreached.
AtNinetySixElementary,theyhaveimplementedthePBIS(PositiveBehavior
InterventionsandSupports)behaviorsystem.Thisschoolwidesystemprovidesa
commonpurposeandapproachtodiscipline,aclearsetofexpectationsandbehaviors,
andacontinuumofdiscouraginginappropriatebehaviors.Whenstudentsmeetbehavior

expectations,theyreceiveLionLootvaluedat$1.ThisLionLootcanbespenton
ThursdaysduringlunchintheLionLootstore.Whenstudentsexhibitinappropriate
behaviors,theywillreceiveacircleontheteacherbehaviorchart.Thestudentisallowed
threecirclesinoneday.Oncethestudentreachestheirthirdcircleinoneday,theywill
receiveareflectionnotethatmustbefilledoutbythechildandsenthomeforparent
signature.Everychildstartswithacleanslateeachday.Studentsareencouragedto
exhibitpositivebehaviorinordertoparticipateintheschoolwideactivitiesthatwillbe
plannedforthosewhomeetthePBISbehaviorstandards.

NonInstructionalRoutinesandProcedures

BeginningClass
Atthebeginningofclass,Iwillgreetstudentsatthedoorwithahug,highfiveor
handshake,eachgreetinguniquetothestudent.Then,studentswillmovetheir
lunchclipsandtaketheirseats.Iwillhavetheirhomeworkprojectedonthe
Smartboard,andstudentsaretocopyitintotheirplanners.Whenstudentsare
finishedcopyingthehomework,theyaretotakeoutsomethingtoreaduntilthe
morningshowbegins.
EndingClass
Studentswillpacktheirplannersandhomeworkfoldersintheirbackpackswith
aboutfivetotenminutesleftintheschoolday.Studentswillthenusethisextra
timetoquietlytalkanddebrieffromthedaywiththeirpeersuntildismissal.
DistributingMaterials
Allmaterialsthatstudentswillneedonadailybasissuchaslooseleafpaper,
scissors,gluesticks,coloredpencilsandmarkerswillbeinaspecificplaceinthe
backoftheroomthatiseasilyaccessibleforstudentsorinsmallcontainersin
eachgroupofstudents.Ifthereareothermaterialssuchastestshieldsorother
papersIneeddistributedduringtheday,Iwillhavemystudentmaterials
managerpasstheseouttotheclass.
CollectingMaterials
Finishedclassworkorothermaterialstobegradedwillbeplacedinabinlabeled
tobegradedinthebackoftheroom.Ifthematerialisatestorother
assessment,studentswillraisetheirhandwhenfinished,andIwillcometo
collectitmyself.
AssigningStudentHelpers
Studenthelperswillrotateweeklyinmyclassroom.Iwillhavechartpostedin
theclassroomwitheachjobandastudentsnamelistedunderneath.Every
studentwillhavetheopportunitytobeahelper.Jobsandtheirdutieswillbe
discussedatthebeginningoftheyearandreviewedthroughouttheyearas
needed.
Routinetasks:
Pencilsharpeningwilltakeplaceathome.Studentsaretobring3sharpened
pencilsfromhomeeachday.Ifstudentsdonothaveanysharpenedpencils,they
aretoasktoborrowonefirstthinginthemorning.Ifstudentsneedtogotothe
bathroom,theyaretoraisetheirhandsorcomeandask,butonlyifitisan

emergency.Whenlininguptogotolunch,recess,bathroom,orrelatedarts,the
lineleader,bathroommonitors,anddoorholderswilllineupfirst;thenstudents
willstandquietlybehindtheirpeersinastraightlinewitheyesforward,mouths
closedandhandstothemselvesuntilwereachourdestination.
SupervisedandSafeSituations:
Duringfireandtornadosdrills,studentsandteacherswillfollowtheroutinesset
inplacebytheschool.Ifthestudentsarerequiredtoleavetheclassroom,they
willlineupatthedoorandwaitformyinstructions.Ifwearetostayinthe
classroom,specificinstructionswillbegivenatthattime.Drillsandprocedures
willbepracticedbeforetheyareneeded.
