    Abdullah Al Fayez has had a lifelong interest in technology and computers since his brother first introduced him to computer hardware at age 14. He enjoys building gaming computers and programming. He chose the University of Scranton because their computer information systems program aligns with his passion and will help him further develop programming skills. As a teenager, video games also piqued his interest in how they were developed and he taught himself the Unity game engine to create a side scroller game. Obtaining a degree in computer information systems will open doors to important jobs in technology companies in his home country of Saudi Arabia.

    Ihaveinterestedintechnologysinceiwasayoungteen.Atage14myoldestbrotherboughthis
    firstcomputerhardware.Ididnotknowwhattheywerecalled,thusmybrotherstartedputting
    partstogetherandhedidtaughtmewhatthepartswerecalledsuchasCPUcentralprocessing
    unit.sincethatmomentmyinteresthasneverleftme,itonlyhasgrownwithinme,asa
    teenagerIgotcuriousonhowthesepartsfunctioned.Itkeptmecuriousonhowhumanshave
    createdthecomputerinthefirstplace.Atage17Iboughtmyfirstadvancedgamingcomputer
    hardwareandstartedtobuildingagamecomputer.ItwasjustlikeachallengewhichIreally
    enjoyedputtingthepartstogether.

    WhydidichoseUniversityOfScrantonamongotheruniversities?Becauseitisrecommended
    bySACM,alsofromwhatihaveseen,theprogramthereisstrong.Iaminterestedintechnology
    andcomputerinformationsystemwhichUniversityofScrantonisoffering.Asapersonwhose
    passioniscomputerbuildingandprogramming,Ihopetofurtherdevelopmyskillsand
    understanding.SofarihavelearnedbasicprogrammingsuchasJavaandC++.Also,this
    undergraduatecoursewillextendmyknowledgetofurtherprogrammingskills,andmightgives,
    thoughtsbeyondmymeasuretodeveloptheimpossible.

    Anotherthingthatkeptmyinterestgrowingishowvideogamesfunction.Asateenagervideo
    gamesmademethinksabouthowtheyweredeveloped.Forexample,howthemaincharacter
    takescommandsfromoneclickfromthecontroller.Tolearnmore,ihavestartedusingagaming
    enginecalledUnity.Ilearnedthebasicsoftheenginebywatching/readingtutorialsthroughthe
    internet.AfterthatImadeasidescrollervideogame.Tobehonestitwaschallengingtocreate.
    Thecommandswerecomplicatedanddifficulttoremember.Althoughitwashard,itfelt
    amazingtodevelop.Itwasjustlikesolvingapuzzle.

    Inclosing,technologyisnecessaryinourlives,itisimpossibletoimagineourworldwithout
    technology.Thisprogramiswantedandstronglyrequiredinmycountry,whichwillgivea
    better
    opportunitytogetajobinhighlyknowncompaniessuchasSaudiAramco,Sabic,and
    more.Tolearnmore,gettingadegreeinComputerInformationSystemwilloffermemanyjobs
    suchas
    ComputerSoftwareEngineers,Applications,ComputerProgrammers,andDatabase
    Administrators.workinginthesecompaniesisahugesuccess.
