Course Outline

Outline of Projects
Your project will consist of learning about the topic and writing a report and presenting what you have learned. You
are not expected to build or design anything.
Guidelines
Each group should consist of exactly 5 students (except one group may be of 4 as there are 109 students)
By week 3 (Friday April 19th) must have formed a group and selected a topic (see list of topics below)
All members of a group will get the same points on project (15 on report and 5 on presentation)
Each topic can be chosen (email to instructor) by at most two groups (first come first serve basis)
5 page report due on Friday June 7th (submit softcopy to corresponding EEE dropbox) and should contain the
following sections:
Abstract/Summary (1/3 page)
Introducing the Topic (2/3 page)
Challenges and Problems in that Topic (1 page)
New Ideas/Concepts/Protocols Proposed Recently (1 page)
Advantages of New Ideas/Concepts/Protocols Proposed (1 page)
Disadvantages and/or Problems to be Solved/Addressed (1 page)
Weeks 7, 8 and 9: 10min presentation for each group in class (we will take 80 min in last three lectures for
presentations, slots assigned on first contact basis)

New Networking Architectures and Concepts:
Topic 1: Software Defined Networking (SDN) -- allocated to 2 teams
Topic 2: Content-centric Networking (CCN) or Named Data Networking (NDN) -- allocated to 2 teams
Topic 3: Active Networking -- allocated to 1 team
Content Delivery Networks:
Topic 4: Content Delivery Networks (CDN) -- allocated to 2 teams
Topic 5: Peer-to-Peer CDN -- allocated to 2 teams
Topic 6: Predictive (Preloading of) Mobile Content -- allocated to 2 teams
Wireless Networking:
Topic 7: New Wireless Technologies: e.g., Femto Cells and Personal Base Stations -- allocated to 2
teams
Topic 8: Cognitive Radios -- allocated to 2 teams
Topic 9: Delay Tolerant Networks (DTN) -- allocated to 1 team
Topic 10: Vehicular Networking (e.g., DSRC and VANETs) -- allocated to 2 teams
Internet Infrastructure and Data Centers
Topic 11: Anycast for Domain Name Service (DNS) -- allocated to 2 teams
Topic 12: Challenges in Data Center Networking -- allocated to 2 teams
