How many human rights are guaranteed, according to the
document? There are 30 guaranteed human rights. 2. According to the Universal Declaration, how should respect for human rights be promoted? Respect for human rights is promoted by teaching and education and by progressive measures, national and international, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance. 3. Which two articles of the Declaration do you think are the most important? Give reasons for your answer. 1. One of the articles I think is the most important is article 5, no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, because I dont think its paid attention to because of how some minorities are treated and some people in general. 2. Another article I think is important is article 18, everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance, because its basically saying people have the right to be whatever they want and I believe that is very true. Everyone should be allowed to think and do what they want with their own self. 4. Should a nations record on human rights be the major factor in determining the United States relationship with that nation? Explain your answer. I think if someone signs a contract of some sort, the things in that contract should be followed just like it is everywhere else. Russia, for example, does not exactly follow all of the human rights. I think there should be repercussions like economic sanction or whatever is needed. I think it should be a major factor, but communication is still needed between us and the nations.
