Usability Test Group 2 Test 1


Scope: This usability test is designed to test instructions using Microsoft
Word 2013 to create Tabs, Indents, Margins, and use the Ruler.
Purpose: The purpose of this test is to determine whether participants can
accomplish the criteria listed in the scenario while using our instructions.
Through observation, we will decide which parts of our instructions need
revision or more emphasis. Can they turn on the ruler? Can they use the
ruler to accomplish any of the other criteria? Can they change the margin to
the Office 2003 default? Can they change the Tab to 2 inches? Can they
create a first line indent? Can they make that indent inch away from the
left margin?
Equipment: The type of equipment required to perform this usability test are
a working computer that supports Microsoft Word 2013, as well Microsoft
Word 2013 installed on that computer.
Participants: The participants of this study will be three random classmates
with a wide range of academic concentrations.
Scenario: A user will read the instructions and set up a word document with:
Turn on ruler
Change margins to the Office 2003 default
2 inch tab
First line indent inch away from the left margin

Could you turn on the ruler? Yes
Could you use the ruler to accomplish any of the other criteria? Yes, for
printing.
Read the Margin instructions and see if you can change the margin to the
Office 2003 default? Yes
Can you change the Tab to 2 inches?
Can you create a first line indent? Yes
Can you make that indent inch away from the left margin? Yes

Comments: When using the ruler instructions, it should be done side by side
with another document because when you open the advanced options tab it
wont let you go to another tab without closing it out first.

Comments:

I think the instructions are pretty clear. Any user can follow them without
getting lost. I would say it is perfect instructions. From the first step until the
final.

Could you turn on the ruler? Yes, I was able to follow the instructions clearly
and get the desired result
Could you use the ruler to create a tab?
Read the Margin instructions and see if you can change the margin to the
Office 2003 default? I was able to get the margins set to the proper format
with the instructions.
Can you change the Tab to 2 inches?
Can you create a first line indent? Yea I was able to perform the indent using
the navigation plane shortcuts

Can you make that indent inch away from the left margin? Yea, I was able
to following the instructions in order to reach the expected outcome
Comments: I notice that you put two methods for the same procedure inside one, it
was unclear as to when the first one began and the next one started. Id
recommend splitting those sections up into sub sections so I can easily navigate the
page more effectively.
