Suryakant Sawhney of Peter Cat Recording Co.

has tinkered with lo-fi electronica in the

past - but his home-styled production, which played like an inevitability on his first
album, makes itself an essential clog in this latest release. Over EP length Lifafa's pallor
has been scraped away, the project's sound has become at once less insular and more
defined. The subterranean percussion, for one, is a recognizable

constant. Sawhney's half-intelligible drawl, seemingly taking cues

from Dirty Beaches, is all the more vivid in Hindi. Although no single track
stands out as starkly as Lifafa I's immersive 'Boa Gombay', 'In Hi Ko's waif-like "
" echoes and 'Irradon's disco groove are windows to Lifafa's
kaleidoscopic capabilities. Most impressively, years and releases
after Peter Cat Recording Co.'s astonishing debut, Sawhney has finally managed to
replicate its vivacity in another form altogether.
