SWINGING into READING

In reading we are working on Read to
Self, Listen to Reading, Work on Writing
and small group instruction. The students
are doing a nice job on their reading.
Mystery critters help us remember the
reading strategies we are working on.
New mystery critters introduced are:
Repeater Raccoon helps us with our
fluency, Flippy the Shark helps us flip
the vowel in words, Lizard the Word
Wizard helps us with high frequency
words, Picturing Penguin helps us make a
picture in our mind about what we have
read and Peeking Poodle helps us by
looking at the picture for clues about a
word we might not know.

MIGHTY MATH

In Unit Five children are working with
extending their knowledge of addition
and subtraction. We are making up and
solving number stories. We are also
working on place value concepts for tens
and ones, exploring two digit addition
and playing Whats my Rule.

Writing

In writing, we have begun a unit on
Fact/Opinion. Students will learn to
write an opinion piece about a topic,
learn to state an opinion, supply a
reason for the opinion, and provide
some sense of closure. We have
been working on the difference
between a fact (something that is
true and can be proved) and a
opinion ( a personal belief about
something that cannot be proved)
