Regina Prince Albert Carlton MLA Darryl Hickie today announced that he will resign as a member of the Legislature in March and return to active police duty with the Prince Albert Police Service. Hickie was a constable with the Prince Albert Police prior to first being elected in 2007. Hickie had previously announced his intention not to run again in the next provincial election. It has been an honour to serve the people of Prince Albert Carlton as their MLA for the past seven years, Hickie said. I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Prince Albert, just in a different capacity as a police officer. Hickies resignation from the Legislative Assembly is effective March 9. Because the resignation is occurring so close to the next election expected this fall or next spring, the Premier is not required to call a byelection, although he has the option of doing so. Premier Brad Wall thanked Hickie for his service to his constituents and the people of Saskatchewan as MLA. Darryl Hickie has been a strong voice in the Legislature and in our government, Wall said. I know that his dedication to public service will continue as he returns to active police duty.
