Time: 3 hrs
Max. Marks: 100
Note: Answer any FIVE full questions, selecting at least TWO full questions from each part.

PART - A
1. a Sketch geometry of single point cutting tool and explain the different angles of tool.

12

b. In an orthogonal cutting the following data were recorded.

Feed = 0.25 mm/rev

Chip thickness = 0.8 mm

Depth of cut = 2 mm

Length of chip-tool contact = 0.5 mm

Working rake angle = 0

cutting force 1800 N

8

Axial thrust force = 900 N

Determine:
i) Angle of friction
ii) Shear strength of the work material
iii) Maximum shear stress on tool.
2 a. Explain various tool wear mechanisms.

b. What are the desirable properties of cutting fluids?

4 a. Describe saddle type Turret lathe with sketch.

10

b. Explain feed, depth of cut and machining time with respect to lathe.

c. Determine the machining time required to machine a work piece of length 350mm and
diameter 50 mm. The cutting speed is 30m/min and feed is 0.4 mm/rev.

PART B
5 a. Explain the following operations that can be performed on a shaper with sketches
