FILM & DISCUSSION: DEAR WHITE PEOPLE

Thu. Feb 26th, 7:00pm, Porter Hall Rm 100
We are excited to bring the break-out Sundance Film Festival hit of 2014 to Carnegie Mellon later
this month. Co-sponsored by Amy Burkert, Vice Provost for Education and Gina Casalegno, Associate
Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs, this film provides a unique opportunity for reflection on
the complexities of race and the student experience.
Dear White People (2014) is a social satire that follows the stories of four black students at an Ivy
League college where controversy breaks out over a popular but offensive black-face party thrown by
white students. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, the film explores racial identity in acutely-nonpost-racial America while weaving a universal story of forging one's unique path in the world.
