About the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening disease that affects approximately
30,000 children and adults in the United States and 70,000 people
worldwide. CF is an inherited disease, and causes problems in the lungs
and digestive system. Today, thanks to research and care supported by
the Foundation, many people with CF are living into their 30s, 40s and
beyond. There is no cure.
At the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, our mission is to develop the means to
cure and control CF and to improve the quality of life for those with the
disease. We continually serve this mission by funding research that helps
develop new CF drugs and therapies. We are proud to say that we have
made significant progress thus far. Since our founding in 1955 the life
expectancy of those with the disease has more than doubled. Today, the
search for a cure is more promising than ever before.
Despite this progress, the lives of children and young adults with CF
continue to be cut far too short. As a nonprofit donor supported
organization, we are in urgent need of continued support from the CF
community in order to successfully add tomorrows for those with the
disease. The foundation receives no federal funding to accomplish its
goals, and it is largely through the support and dedication of volunteers
that the fight against CF maintains its promise.
We are extremely appreciative of your willingness to partake in this fight
by means of running with Team CF in the Pittsburgh Marathon.
Proceeds from the event will be used to fund groundbreaking research
and to give those with CF a chance at the lives they deserve.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most prevalent genetic disease in the United States. It
substantially impairs normal respiratory and digestive functions for those affected,
making the simple acts of eating and breathing a challenge. Ten million Americans
are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene.
Advances continue to be made towards finding a cure for CF, and newly developed therapies have made a significant difference in treating the life-threatening
symptoms of the disease. Although this research progress is promising, it is not
enough. For the first time in the foundations history, scientific opportunities are
arising at a pace that exceeds the Cystic Fibrosis Foundations ability to fund
them. To maintain the exciting momentum of this progress, the foundation will
need your help now more than ever.
Too many young lives depend on this vital research to let it slip by unfunded!
Run to Cure CF is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's charity team in the 2014 Dicks
Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon. On May 3 and 4, 2014, I'm running in the
