Leopard Mask
I chose the leopard because it reminded me of myself. Like the leopard, I enjoy
spending time alone and am most active at night. The leopard also has significance in
many cultures. The Chinese thought it symbolized bravery and martial ferocity, while, in
many African cultures, it represents courage and aggression. The leopard was
especially important to the Egyptians, who sometimes kept them as pets. They
worshipped Mafdet, goddess of punishment and helpmate of the dead, in the form of a
leopard, and on certain occasions, priests and pharaohs wore leopard skins. Although
they have not existed in England for millennia, leopards are featured on both the flag
and coat of arms of Shropshire. The beautiful animals prevalence in world culture
attests to their incredible power in the imagination.
