Diary log-week 6
During this week I researched upon
relevant narrative theories and the
psychology of colour. These are both
prominent topics within the creation of
a short film as a narrative or use of
colour can present varying different
ideologies and themes. Through
researching the different psychological
connotations colour can have I was
influenced to decide to utilise colour
correction in the editing process of my
final product. By visualising a predominant colour scheme
through my product I was convinced
I would be able to present certain
ideologies and themes orienting the
genre of my product. This essential research into colours
allowed me to make this choice.
I then researched the prominent
narrative theories that exist. I created
an amalgamation of these with a
summary of their primary features on a
prezi. By solidifying my knowledge on
these theories I was aware which
narrative I wanted to follow and what
effect I wanted upon my audience. I
concluded that my short film was
majorly going to follow Todorovs
narrative theory with a surprise break
of convention at the end of its runtime to shock the audience
with an unexpected narrative twist.
I then went further to narrow down my
research into the desired genre of my
short film. This was Science Fiction
and for my product to correlate with
this I needed to explore its popular
conventions and how theyre utilised.
Upon identifying many conventions
within the genre I was able to identify

how they could be incorporated into my product or why they

would be disregarded if they were not relevant.
