Form 3: Course Revision Thoughts Anne

Wilkinson
Complete the following form and upload to the Dropbox. Use
this form if you are revising an existing course.

Description: What is this course about? Where/how will it be

taught?
Principles of Rehabilitative Care and Management of Chronic Disease.
This course is part of an Advanced Technical Certificate in
Gerontological and Rehabilitative Nursing Care. This course has only
been taught once and it was taught in the blended format. It will now
be taught completely online in response to student feedback.

Learners: Who are the learners? What do you know about them
that might make a difference in what you design? (Think about
age, prior knowledge, familiarity with technology)

Adults generally 30-50 years of age

Majority are females

These are practicing RNs who have prior knowledge, but need to
update their knowledge and skills due to changes in the health
care environment

All have taken a prior online course, but still have varying levels
of technology experience

Things that are working well in my course. This can be related

to what or how you teach, how students respond, or about the
technology. What do you like about teaching this course?
As the course has only run once, it is difficult to tell what is working
well. The reason the course is being moved from blended to online
delivery, is that students would take the first course in the series and
many would stop. The first course was offered totally online, but the

others were offered blended. The working RNs did not want to come in
to campus. We had used the Human Patient Simulator Lab to run
scenarios during the on campus class times. I liked teaching the
course as I enjoy the subject matter. I have worked in that setting and
I have also completed a mentorship in the Hartford Center for
Excellence in Geriatric Care.

Things that Id like to change about my course. Again, what

drags you down? It could be technology, disinterested
students, lack of discussion, etc.
What I wanted to change was getting this course completely online. I
had so many students tell me that they were disappointed that they
couldnt progress in the certificate due to work/life obligations. Now
that we have approval, the challenge will be to actively engage the
students in case studies and problem centered learning and matching
the right technology to it.

The most frustrating or irritating aspect of my course as I am

currently teaching it is:
There is a lot of content in this course and measuring student progress
based off of case studies and scenarios was difficult. I think that some
of what I have already learned in the E-Learning Certificate courses will
help me revamp my rubrics which should help.

The most time consuming aspect of my course as I am

currently teaching it is:
Grading the case scenarios.
