Creative Writing Activity: The Digestive System

Pretend you are your favorite meal. Tell a story in your point of view about
your adventures through your Digestive System. Be creative! Your story
should be fun and entertaining. Your story can be scary, funny, sad, or
adventurous. You can pretend your digestive system is a resort, vacation
destination, a theme park, or a dark alley you made a wrong turn on (or
whatever else you can think of!).
The meal that you are using for your main character must include the following
nutrients: carbohydrate (starch), fat, protein, and fiber (roughage)
In your story you must include the main parts of the digestive system in which food
passes (mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and rectum/anus).
You should also mention the importance of your salivary glands, pancreas, liver and
gallbladder, but remember that food does not pass through these organs
You must include the function of the organs (mechanical digestion, chemical digestion,
absorption) above in an interesting way that goes along with the theme of your story
You must make sure that you describe which parts of your meal are being digested (and
how) in each of the digestive organs
You must mention the four stages of food processing in your story (ingestion, digestion,
absorption, egestion)
You must include a cover for your story that includes the title, author(s) names, and an
image depicting the theme or one of the scenes of your story It must be COLORFUL!!!

If you use any internet sources to help you with ideas, research, or finding images, you
MUST create a citation for them. Make sure that you save the website addresses that
you use!!! (And use your class notes to help you! )
On the back of this sheet there is a check list of structures that you should make sure
you include!
