C.R.O.W.N. Cinderella Man
Purpose The film takes place in New York and New Jersey during the Great Depression,
which was a time when people experienced the worst economic hardship in American history.

Jobs were scarce during this time, which left many people unemployed.
Many unemployed workers resorted to theft in order to put food on the table for their
families.
In addition, many became homeless because they lost their jobs and could not pay their
rent.
Some families moved in with close relatives, while others built shacks out of tar paper,
cardboard, and/or scrap materials they could find. These shack towns became known as
Hoovervilles.
Hoovervilles were often in horrible conditions and dangerous when fights broke out.
Lastly, children also suffered the most from the long-term effects of a poor diet and no
medical care.

R React
Well one thing about the film that affected me was that I flinched nearly every single time the
boxers hit each other (honestly not a big fan of fights). The outcome was also surprising to me. I
did not expect Braddock to win against Baer, and I had expected him to get killed in the fight.
O One
Braddock became the symbol of hope to many who had lost hope in their ruined nation.
W Why
The film showed the conditions and the life of a man who lived, suffered and succeeded during
the Great Depression.
N Note
1. I thought the best part of the film was when Braddock won the fight against Baer since he was
the underdog of the fight and he had inspired many people because he didnt give up.
2. The worst part of the film for me was when Braddock seemed to have lost almost everything
after he broke his hand, and his wife wanted to send their children away.
3. Yes, I would recommend this film because it had a lot of suspense and action that people
would be interested in, but it also includes history that people could learn from.
