Mae Jemison had

several awards, gave
speeches, had a few
television
appearances and
was a college
professor once.

Mae Jemison

I chose Mae Jemison

because, she had a
interesting life, was the
first African American
woman to go to space,
and is a more recent
figure.

I chose a spaceship
for Mae Jemisons
symbol, since her
most famous career
was being a
astronaut.

George
Washington
Carver

George Washington Carver was born in

Diamond, Missouri On January 5th 1864. The
exact day of his birth is unknown. Probably
because he went into slavery at a young age.
During this time of being a slave he studied
peanut plants, soy bean plants, and cotton.
He also tried promoting using different crops
to poor farmers. Surprisingly, he made over
100 peanut recipes and products.

Carter actually became famous over the

years but tragically died in January 5th 1943 at
the age of 79. His cause of death was a bad
fall down a flight of stairs. But, during his
career he made a new soils, how to grow
certain crops better, and made delicious
peanut
butter!
This is
Carters
symbol, since one of
his most famous
inventions is peanut
butter.
I chose George Washington Carter
because, he came really far in life from
being a slave, to a scientist and inventor.
Also, he invented peanut butter, which
everyone uses unless your allergic.

PI

Phillis
Wheatly

Phillis Wheatley was born in West

Africa in 1753.
She was the first published African
American woman, and the second
poet.
She was a slave going to Britain.
Her owners daughter taught her
to read and write,
Later she chose to write some
poetry, this poetry actually was
praised by George Washington and
other readers.

Her two children died

when they were infants,
Her husband fell into
debt and was
imprisoned.
She later fell into poverty
and died from sickness
in 1784 at the age of 31.
Her surviving son also
died.

I chose to do Phillis
Wheatley because
she had a good life
until the later years
when she went into
poverty and died.
Also I think its
important to include
someone from way
back, and to have
one of the first
African American
Poets.

I chose a
book for
Philliss
symbol,
since she
was a
poet and
writer.

These are two

painting of Phillis
Wheatley, theres no
photographs because
there were no
cameras during this
time.

Moses first joined the Toledo

Blue Stockings, in 1883. He
played as a catcher during
this time. Later, he and his
team had a game with the
Chicago White Socks, but
they refused because of
Moses on their team.

In 1884 Moses joined the

Major league. During this
time he had the batting
average of 263 (above the
average). Also, his brother
joined the Major leagues
with him as well.

I have chosen
this as his
symbol since
he was a
baseball
player.

On May 11th, 1924 he died

at the age of 41.

A few events that happened

before his batting times are
being a inventor, he made
moving picture equipment.
Also he got in a scuffle with a
few people who came to
attack him, in self defense he
killed one, he was later put
into prison for second degree
murder,
