Patent Number:

US 3907286 A
Patent Summary:
Coin operated pool tables are normally characterized by the function that provides an
inaccessible ball collection tray that is under a ball receiving chute connected to the pockets.
The ball collection releases the balls into a collection chute by the coin mechanism device
where the money to play is inserted. The released balls are collected along a ball return chute
to place them in an accessible tray where they are used after the game is complete.

Patent Critique:
The issues at hand with the coin mechanism of the pool table is that it can easily be jammed,
allowing continuous play for the cost of one play. Although, typically only a dollar to play, if
people find out that this is possible, the annual revenue will dramatically drop. On the other
hand, investors of the pool table receive money from each play along with other companies
profiting from pool accessories.
