The STAMP assessment is administered annually to 5th and 8th grade Spanish students in the CFSD to measure their Spanish language proficiency. It assesses four communicative modes and provides scores related to ACTFL proficiency levels. STAMP results are used along with other data to determine appropriate class placements for students transitioning between grade levels and schools. The assessment also helps evaluate the efficacy of the district's world language and immersion programs. Students are told the STAMP is not a test that can be failed but rather measures their abilities at a point in time and allows them to set goals for improvement.

The Standards-Based Measurement of Proficiency (STAMP), delivered by
Avant Assessment, is a web-based, computer-adaptive tool that is used in CFSD to assess the language proficiency of Spanish students at the end of their 5th and 8th grade years. The STAMP4Se is administered to 5 th graders while the STAMP 4S is administered to 8 th graders. The assessment is scheduled annually in March or April over a span of 4-6 days. The STAMP assesses competency in all four communicative modes and test scores are related to the ACTFL Guidelines at the Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Individual STAMP results are examined with a variety of other data points to determine appropriate placement for WL students as they transition from elementary to middle school and from middle school to high school. The results of this external assessment are also used to gauge the efficacy of our WL and immersion programs and to inform decisions regarding staff development and instructional planning. Perhaps one of the most important ideas to communicate to students before STAMP administration is that it is an assessment that cannot be failed. Instead it is a measure of each students ability to use language in communicative contexts at a given point in time and, as such, it gives students the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and to target specific goals for improvement while also affording teachers the opportunity gauge the efficacy of instruction. STAMP4Se Format Note: The STAMP4Se test is not timed. Students may pause and resume the assessment at any point. On average, students take around 80 minutes to complete the full assessment. 1. Reading: approx. 24 multiple-choice questions; approx. 25-35 minutes (The assessment is adaptive so it could take some students a longer or shorter period of time to complete.) 2. Writing: 2 writing prompts; approximately 10 minutes 3. Listening: approx. 24 multiple-choice questions; approx. 25-30 minutes 4.
