Camper Chronicle

Math This week we looked at how to find the area and volume of

irregular shapes and solids, how to use objects to solve a simpler


problem, and then we spent Wednesday reviewing for our topic 13
test. Students took the test on Thursday, and I was very pleased
with how many great scores students earned! Our next unit will be a
tough one covering measurements, converting measurements and
figuring elapsed time.

Reading

With next week being ISTEP week and a busy week of


testing, we have decided not to do a regular reading story and test.
We will, instead, continue learning and reading about the Titanic
and applying our reading skills to non-fiction passages about the
ship and the wreck.

Grammar Next week we will work on identifying and correctly


using pronouns and antecedents.

Writing Students are busily working on typing our state re-

ports. No due date has been set quite yet. Its looking like it will be
within the next couple weeks at the rate students are working.

Spelling Next weeks words all have Greek word parts. Spelling

Social Studies We have begun learning about the beginning of


the Revolutionary War and the first battles. We will finish up our
chapter next week, review, and take the test over the chapter the
following week.

Science Science this week consisted of reviewing our lesson on

animal adaptations and then learned about how organisms make


and obtain food.

Note From the Teacher:

Next week your child will be taking the applied skills portion of the ISTEP+ test. They will be assessed in Reading, Math, and Writing. This portion, as opposed to the multiple choice portion, seems
to be more mentally draining. Here are a few things you can do at home to help prepare your child
for this high-stakes test.
1. Ensure your child gets plenty of sleep the night before.
2. Ensure your child eats a good breakfast the morning of the test.
3. Give lots of encouragement prior to each test and remind them to do their best.
4. Avoid pulling students out of school during testing times. (Monday-Wednesday from
8:00-10:30)
Students have been working hard all year. Its time now to demonstrate how much theyve
learned.
Any parent interested in attending Camp Amigo with us on April 16 & 17 please return the chaperone form ASAP. We are in the beginning phases of planning and need to have headcounts for
adult chaperones.
