Quotations
Although, words like a ,an, and, the, but, or, for, nor, and
Prepositions with four letters or fewer do not need a capital letter.
NOTE: the is not capitalized when it is not the first letter of the
Title.
OUTLINES
We learn to organize written material by
outlining.
Outlines require capital letters for the Roman numerals and for the
letters of the first major topics. We also capitalize the first letter of the
first word in the outline.
I. Tragedues by William Shakespeare
A. Antony and Cleopatra
B. Julius Caesar
II. Comedies by Javier Cortes
A. The Taming of the Shrew
B. The Merchant of Venice
Quotations
We capitalize the first word of a dialogue quotation, as shown below.
Ex.:
Professor Falstaff inquired, Have you finished
reading The Old Curiosity Shop?
Nell quipped. Of course not. Its one thousand
Pages long!
