Career Development Activity


For Financial Literacy

Students were to research a career of their
choice but extended research and thought to
what colleges offer the needed program, how a
student will pay for college, etc.
Students completed a career research project on
a career suggested by a personality profile
assessment or one of their own choosing.
Students will take this career and pull it into the
next standard of the class regarding the ins and
outs of earning an income and what actually
comes home (net pay).

Resume

Students were to conduct an online job search


for an entry-level position in their chosen career
(from previous career project). Students were
then to tailor a resume and cover letter to the
chosen position.

Guest Speaker

Johanna Gillispie from Hamilton State Bank is to


come speak with students about her career
(Sales Manager and VP) and about the
importance of understanding credit, how it
impacts financial decisions, and how it can help
or hurt.

Advisory Board member, Dave Grant (State


Farm), to come speak to the class about his
personal experience with personal finance (He
chose this as a career goal early on.), his current
career, and the importance of saving and
investing (FIN-FL-7).
