Be Responsible and Do Your Job, Be Respectful, and Be Safe

MS. GRAYS NEWS!

BRRRRRR!!! Happy December!

Important Dates
Wednesday, Dec. 3rd
Nutrition Presentation

Time is flying and we are having fun and learning a lot in

our classroom! Just like the changing of seasons, there are many
changes happening in our room! Many of you have stopped in and
noticed the room is looking a little bare! As I am becoming more
accustom to the classroom and getting to know your child; I am
finding out what works best for learning. Before winter break, our
classroom will be changed to make more room for learning on our
carpet area. Our projects, family collages, and work will be moved
around our room! We have many discussions about change and
flexibility in our classroom and in life. All of your children have
already proved to respond positively to change.

Winter Break

LMC!

Winter Gear and Shoes

With the weather getting more frigid, it is becoming increasingly
important to make sure your child has his/her hats, mittens, snowpants, boots, etc.! PLEASE write names on your childs belongings!
Also, your child MUST have regular shoes to put on during the day;
no boots!

Yay! We have been told

that we will have a
constant LMC time on
our six-day schedule.
Our official and regular
LMC days will be Day 5.
These upcoming dates
are: Dec. 9th, 17th, and
January 6th!

DECEMBER
SUPERSTARS!

Parent Volunteers
We are so appreciative of the help you contribute. If your schedule
has opened up for December or January, e-mail me or write me a
quick note in your childs planner. I have many projects that can be
done at home when it fits in your schedule!
Daily Planners
Thank you for your continued communication through your childs
planner. It is a very beneficial tool for me and your child to report
on the day; what went well and what could have been improved
upon. I am always thrilled to put many smiley faces in the planners
along with positive notes!

Look for the pink folder

of supplies and packets
to complete for the
special week!

Units of Study this Month

Reading and Language Arts
This month we are practicing the skills we have already learned, (cause and eect, main ideas and details,
making predictions, drawing conclusions, and studying text features). We are also practicing speaking and
writing with contractions; as well as learning the dierence between facts and opinions! Ask your child to
brainstorm synonyms for common words! Talking about words with the same meaning builds their
vocabulary and background knowledge!
Math
Whew!! We just completed Unit 2 post-tests last week! The students learned a lot in Unit 2 and they
should all be proud of themselves and the growth they have made! Unit 3 has begun and it will focus on
measurement, (inches, centimeters, feet, and meters) and the recognition of shapes, (cubes, hexagons,
pentagons, rectangular prisms, and quadrilaterals). I have sent a pink card stock ruler for the
students to keep in their folders during the unit to complete their math homework!!
Writing
We will begin our informational writing unit! Our unit will focus on researching, learning, and writing
about butterflies before our butterfly unit begins in 2015! We will be using our knowledge of text features
and facts and opinions to compile our own informational text writing. The students already thoroughly
enjoy non-fiction texts and this writing unit will surely continue to excite them before taking care of our
own butterflies. "
Social Studies and Nutrition
We are finishing up our Nutrition unit for Health and heading back into studying the History of La
Crosse! You children enjoy learning about real facts and information while studying text features. Right
before heading o for winter break, we will be studying dierent winter holidays around the world for
social studies! Please let me know if there is a holiday your family celebrates that you would like me to
incorporate into our unit!"

Every single day I am able to work with your child is a privilege.

I am so thankful for your partnership in this educational journey. There is nothing more
rewarding than receiving the big smiles, warm hugs, heartfelt notes, beautiful artwork,
and love and engagement for learning!!
As always; thank you for everything YOU do!

Educationally yours,
Ms. Gray :)
