School Tote Cut List

OUTER FABRIC FOR BODY OF THE BAG: 1 yard


• Front & Back: 16” x 20” cut 2
• Bottom: 5 ½” x 20” cut 1
• Sides: 5 ½” x 16” cut 2
• Handles: 2 ½” x 18” cut 4
• Strap: 3” x 8” cut 2

LINING: ¾ yard
• Front & Back: 16” x 20” cut 2
• Bottom: 5 ½” x 20” cut 1
• Sides: 5 ½” x 16” cut 2

POCKETS: either fabric, you may want to get a full yard of your lining just to be safe it you want it to be your pockets too
• Large: 7” x 14”
• Small: 7” x 6” cut 2

BOTTOM HANDLE: I used white on red tote,


• 2” x 16” cut 2
**For the brown owl tote was wider:
• 4” x 16” cut 2

INTERFACING:
• 2” x 10-12” cut 2

RIBBON:
• 3” scrap, any width you want

Other Measurements
MAKE BAG SIDES:
Take your 4 rectangles (16” x 5 ½”) 2 outer, 2 lining. Measure & mark 2” from each side. On the bottom, measure
1” up on the side. Connect the two points, and cut making angles on the sides, making your rectangles a triangular shape.

BUTTON HOLE CITY:


Population: 21
There are a boat-load of button holes. One is on the closing strap if you choose to have it.
On the tote, there are 10 button holes on each side, sewn in pairs- 5 pairs per side
Measure 1” between each pair
Measure 1 ½” between sets
Make button holes in a shallow smile shape
