Dear 2nd Grade Parents,

Will March come in like a lion or a lamb? There is snow in the forecast
for the weekend. I cant wait to hear the kids sing in church Sunday
morning. Mrs. Schneider and I trade off each month as to who goes to
choir with the kids and who takes the 5 th grade class during that same
time. I have been with the 5th graders this month.
There is still time to bring goodies for the Spaghetti Benefit on
Sunday. We hope to have a crowd! The 7 th & 8th grade boys basketball
teams will be busy this weekend preparing and serving on Sunday! I
may not be able to stay to eat. My daughter, Micki is a distance runner
for Fort Hays State and they are having their NCAA regional
championship this weekend in Missouri and that gives me the
opportunity to see her run. (She set a new school record in the 3000m
this year! So needless to say, this proud mama is anxious to be able to
cheer for her!)
Thank you to all who donated books to Hands and Feet Book Drive.
Radio station LIFE 88.5 was here on Wednesday afternoon to
celebrate Read Across America with us when they came to collect
the books that were brought in for the drive.
We have been working very hard at learning our regrouping skills
(borrowing and carrying) in math. The class has been doing very well
overall! Many of the children are still using their fingers to add and
subtract simple facts, which slows them down a great deal. (Some are
getting the problems wrong because they are one off in one place or another.)

They should know addition and subtraction facts to 18 by memory at

this point. I have some flash cards Id be happy to share. I know that
I have put this in our notes before, but we are still not seeing much
improvement. The math facts really need to just be memorized, and
that takes lots of practice.

Again, I strongly urge you to make use of the Moby Max program that
is available on our class website: Hopefulkids.weebly.com
