Math
Next week we begin Unit 5. The
objectives of Unit 5 center around
telling time and reading and
producing graphs.
Time will
involve reading clocks to the
minute
and
calculating
time
passed.
For
example
or
What
this
time is
this?
Tough huh? And they have to know
the difference between am and pm
as well.
Students will also need to know
how to calculate how much time
has passed. Ex. John left home at
7:30. He got to school at 8:20.
How
much
time
was
spent
traveling?

Students will also need to be able to read

graphs and understand questions like,
How many fewer did Ashley have than
Savannah, or How many more students
liked cherry than grape?
Its not that telling time is hard, but this is
a world of digital clocks now, and kids
get shepherded through most off their day
at this age. I remember telling my kids,
Well be there in 3 episodes of Full
House. rather than an hour and a half.

Reading and Writing

We are fully into our research of
historical figures and leaders.
There is really no distinction
between reading and writing
time. One is leading to the
other. Each of the students has
put together a list of categories
which will become chapters.
We are collecting information
under those categories and
Monday we will write the draft
of our first chapter.
In addition we have been
online
to
search
for
photographs that will add to
the understanding of the first
chapter.
For example: a
childhood home or family
photograph. We learned how to
cut and paste the photo into
Word and to add a caption
using a text box. Seriously, this
