Counseling 6326, Educational and Scholarly Writing, took me through a process that was
new to me. After writing each type of essay, narrative, expository and persuasive the papers
were reviewed by our classmates and discussed in pairs. I have always proofread all of my
writing, but getting someone elses perspective was very beneficial. Rewording sentences that
were awkward, or seeing where my topic had changed were some of the most helpful insights.
I truly felt that each paper was improved greatly after the peer review. Also, changing
people that we peer reviewed with was helpful. Being able to get many different perspectives
was enlightening. When you read your own work you can fill in what you meant to say with
your mind and not even realize it.
I do feel as though my writing has improved and I feel more confident in the writing
process. I have always felt incompetent when writing but have grown greatly in my confidence
in my writing ability in this course. My typing skills have improved greatly also.
