Bibliographic Essay

Many people experience the dreadful flu-like symptoms associated with food poisoning
every year. There are many causes for food poisoning and many ways to avoid it. Most people
experience food poisoning due to the accumulation of certain types of bacteria, toxins, and other
harmful things in their food, which makes them sick. However, there is still a lot of debate about
what exactly causes food poisoning and where it originates. Some scientists believe the
prevalence of bacteria in chicken causes many of the food poisoning cases we see today, while
others believe the origin is chemical substances. Still, scientists cannot decide what bacteria or
which chemical substances actually cause the food poisoning. Therefore, the subject of the origin
of food poisoning is still debatable. Additionally, there are many ways to avoid food poisoning.
Some of the suggestions are obvious, such as washing your hands, cooking your food and taking
temperature to ensure that the food has been cooked all the way through, or keeping raw and
cooked food separate. However, there are also some unconventional ideas about avoiding food
poisoning. There have been studies done about pasteurization of raw shellfish to suggest that this
would reduce the potential of viruses to cause food poisoning. It is important to understand the
causes and preventative actions against food poisoning so we can continue to feed people food
that is not harmful and that they will enjoy. With the growth of the population of humans on
earth, we cannot afford to waste food that has been tainted due to carelessness on our part. The

cost of healthcare to treat food poisoning is another concern for people. Therefore, I will be
investigating the causes of food poisoning, the best ways to avoid getting it, and how this will
reduce our waste of food.
