SENIOR EXIT PROJECT PLAN PROPOSAL

I. SENIOR PROJECT: PAPER

A. In a sentence, state what your working thesis is.
From recession to boom, regulations, diesel prices, and market factors, the American
trucking industry has changed over the years.
B. In a paragraph, explain how your paper relates to your project.
My paper focuses on the American trucking industry. In my paper, I explain how the
industry has grown and changed over the years. I touch on subjects related to the
industry including laws and regulation, costs, and how the industry performs in
economic booms and busts. My paper relates to the project because I wanted a
general background on trucking in order to help me obtain my Commercial Drivers
License (CDL). I believe this paper is the perfect way to introduce me to the industry,
and perhaps help me pick up some useful information that will be beneficial to me in my
journey in obtaining my CDL.

II. SENIOR PROJECT: PROJECT

A. In a paragraph, state what your project is: (Must use action verbs such as;
Organize and implement, Plan and implement, Initiate and implement, Make, Build,
Create, or Perform)
I will implement a plan and timeline for obtaining a Commercial Drivers License
(CDL). With this plan, I will perform the necessary requirements and assignments to
obtain a CDL. Specifically, I will break this process into steps. First, I will schedule a
medical examination and pass a physical. Secondly, I will apply for a Federal Medical
Card which will allow me to operate on inter/intrastate highways. After that, I will
study for the CDL examination and pass the general knowledge component of the
test. Next, I will apply for a CDL permit. Then, I will pass the pre-trip, backing test,
and skills test. Finally, I will add my CDL classes and endorsements to my Class D
license at the local Department of Motor Vehicles. I also will do a presentation on the
dangers of a semi during Mr.McCauleys Agriculture Safety Day. If that is not
scheduled early enough, I will present to one of his classes. This process will take at
least 25 hours.
B. In a paragraph, explain who you will come in contact with (mentor, interviewee, etc.),
what you will need, what you will do, where your project will occur, how much it is
estimated to cost, and an estimated timeline for completing your project components
(include dates).
I will learn about driving a semi in a class or I will learn all that I can from my dad,
brother-in-law, and mentor. These experts will point me in the right direction on the
steps needed to obtain a CDL. I plan on getting my Commercial Drivers License

permit by February 15th. After getting my CDLP I will take the CDL test by April 1st. I
will present my trucking safety presentation during Mr.McCauleys Agriculture Safety
Day or to his class in late March or early April. I plan on completing my entire project
before April 10th.
C. In a paragraph, explain your prior knowledge related to your project and why your
proposed Senior Exit Project is a stretch for you.
I have driven a manual truck before with a trailer. However, I have not driven a
manual truck that would fall above a Class D license. I also have no experience with
double clutching, using the gas pedal when shifting, or driving a semi and trailer. This
is a stretch for me because not a lot of people my age have obtained a CDL. It will be
a challenge for me to accomplish my goal because I am not taking a CDL class,
which means that I learn all the necessary information on my own.
D. Your project must incorporate at least two of the following criteria. Please bold or
highlight all criteria you plan to meet.
1. Academic (Your project displays specific evidence of learning from your mentor.)
2. Community Service (Your project provides viable service to the community.)
3. Career (Your project investigates potential future employment.)

III. SENIOR PROJECT: PRESENTATION

A. Please note that you will be required to create a display board for your
presentation. In addition, you must create a presentation using movie maker,
Prezi, PowerPoint, or other approved applications.
IV. SENIOR PROJECT: PORTFOLIO
A. Please note you will be required to develop an on-line portfolio to creatively
showcase your work. All students will be required to use Weebly for this portion of
the project.
