1) Constructing the action requires finding the Langragian:
L = T1 + T2 U1 U2

(1)

Where Ti = 12 mi (xi 2 + yi 2 ) is the kinetic energy, and Ui = mi gyi is the

potential energy. From the diagram above:
x1 = l1 sin 1 andx1 = l1 1 cos 1
x2 = x1 + l2 sin 2 andx2 = 1 + l2 2 cos 2
y1 = l1 cos 1 andy1 = l1 1 sin 1
y2 = y1 l2 cos 2 andy2 = y1 l2 cos 2
Inserting these coordinates into equation (1):

2
L = [(m1 +m2 )l12 1 +m2 l22 2 +2m2 l2 1 2 [l1 cos 1 cos 2 +l1 sin 1 sin 2 ]]

Example look at what this 1 + 2 + 1 = 0 This is the next line, or is
it?
This REALLY is the next line
And stuff
1 + 2 + 1 = 0
x

10x3 dx

(x, y) + =

1 + 2 + 1 = 0

(2)

1 + 2 + 1 = 0

(3)

1 + 2 + 1 = 0
