WHAT IS MEDITATION?
Mediation: The action or practice of mediating
Meditate: To think deeply or focus ones mind for a period of time, in
silence or with the aid of chanting, for religious or spiritual purposes or as
a method of relaxation
A practice where a person or group of people trains the mind to relax
completely to think deeply about something

WHAT ARE THE POSITIVE


EFFECTS OF MEDITATING?
Balances you physical, emotional, and mental state
Stress/Tension relief
Builds self confidence
Reduces anxiety attacks Lowers the levels of blood lactate
Increases serotonin Low serotonin is associated with depression, headaches, and insomnia
Helps reduce heart disease
Helps with weight loss
Helps keep blood pressure normal
Helps with P.M.T. (Premenstrual Tension, AKA PMS)
Enhances energy, strength, and vigor
Increases concentration and strengthens the mind
Creates a state of deep relaxation and general feeling of wellbeing

ARE THERE?
Mindfulness (Aka, Vipassana) Being present and letting your mind run and
accepting whatever thoughts come to mind
Zazen Anti-Method used commonly by Buddhist monks
Transcendental Meditation Vedanta used in Hinduism, sit in the Lotus or halfLotus position, and the use of Mantra which is a sacred word.
Kundalini The rising stream of energy in a human being, become aware of the
rising stream
Qi gong Taoist meditation, concentration on breath to circulate energy
Guided Visualization Concentration on an image or imaginary environment
Trance-based Practices
Heart Rhythm Meditation Focus on the breath and heartbeat
