Overview:

Do you excel in an environment that values exploration and discovery? We have a universe of opportunities waiting for you!
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is NASAs lead center for robotic exploration of the solar system. Our core competency is the end-to-end implementation of
unprecedented robotic space missions to study Earth, the Solar System, and the Universe.
Want to do a little exploring? The Mission Design and Navigation Section is looking for bright, motivated, and persistent graduates to tackle some of the toughest
challenges in exploring our solar system. We conceive advanced mission concepts to cleverly reach and study new regions of our solar system. We not only
design the trajectories of our interplanetary spacecraft, we also build the solar system maps themselves and navigate the spacecraft to their remote destinations.
On the ground, performing such computations relies on developing unique software and using the latest computing technology. Meanwhile, in space, the demands
we put on our spacecraft keep growing they need to be able to respond autonomously to new environments, they need to communicate with each other and
work together, and they need to work to tighter requirements. Were no longer satisfied with just landing on Mars or the Moon, we need to reach sites of scientific
interest in hazardous environments and be able to pick up and return samples to Earth. For these and other challenges, we seek graduates who have raised the
bar in their schools to join our team and help JPL do the same.
We are proud to be part of NASA and Caltech, as we explore the universe and make history through new discoveries.
We aim to do things never done before and to go places few can go. We dare mighty thingsdo you?

Responsibilities:
As a member of the Navigation & Mission Design System Engineering Group, you will work under the direction of the Group Supervisor and be a member of the
systems engineering and administration team responsible for the planning, system design, integration, test, and administration functions of the Mission Design and
Navigation (MDNav) computer environment, which supports software development, mission analysis, and navigation operations tasks. You will work within a
customer-focused environment and support MDNav mission critical activities. You will ensure the continuity, integrity and availability of computer systems, servers
and networks. You will also participate in technology evaluation studies, system design activities, and capacity planning. You will be provided hands on training or
attend training classes as necessary. You may lead a small team to accomplish tasks.
Your day-to-day system engineering responsibilities may include:

Defining IT infrastructure system needs, identifying solutions that meet requirements, and implementing system installations, which includes performance
analysis, maintainability analysis, capacity analysis, and reliability analysis.

Working closely with the MDNav software developers and task leads to design, plan, and implement complex solutions to meet user community needs in
a multimission environment.

Exercising discretion and independent judgment in evaluating potential approaches and solutions to critical problems and determining appropriate
resolutions (sometimes in a time critical manner).

Presenting to team members and other stakeholders on relevant infrastructure topics.

Establishing contingency plans and anomaly resolution plans for IT infrastructure.

Developing, vetting and enforcing security requirements.

Disaster recovery planning, implementation, and testing.

Creating and maintaining documentation of processes and procedures as well as influence future policies.

Forecasting IT infrastructure system needs and working with other information systems areas to develop policies and procedures to resolve more
complex technical problems.

Your day-to-day system administration responsibilities may include:

Managing user accounts and providing end-user support.

Design systems according to user needs and requirements and work with the business team to complete acquisition.

Installing and maintaining operating systems, third-party, and in-house software along with developing and maintaining operational tools to monitor
applications, systems, and processes.

Programming in administrative languages including CSH/TCSH, Perl, Python, and HTML/Java.

Training users in using systems and applications maintained as well as troubleshooting problems between hardware, OS, and MDNav software.

Troubleshooting software and hardware problems that range from simple (level 1 help desk support) to very complex interactions.

Will develop and maintain operational tools to monitor applications, systems, and processes.

Occasionally interacting with vendors, industry partners and other NASA centers.
