Veterinarian Assistant

Chelsea Stromley

Career
The career I chose is either a veterinarian assistant or a
veterinary technician. Being an actual veterinarian would be
great because you make good money doing that, but I dont
think I would be able to operate on the animals. I would be good
at taking care of them and helping the vet out with what they
need.

Education Level
For a veterinarian assistant you only need your high school diploma and you
dont really need any work experience because you are just helping the vet
with his/her tasks.
For a veterinarian technician it requires a two-year associate degree.
For a veterinarian technologists you need a 4-year bachelors degree.
Typically, technologists and technicians must take a credentialing exam and
must become registered, licensed, or certified, depending on the
requirements of the state.

Environment

Veterinary assistants work in clinics, animal hospitals, and

research laboratories.

Wages
The average median of wages for a veterinary assistant is
$27,999. The average they make an hour is $11.75
The average annual income for a technician is $31,570.

Employment Outlook
Employment of veterinary technologists and technicians is supposed to grow
30% from 2012 to 2022.
Being a veterinary assistant there are opportunities for advancement, like
being a technician or technologist or even becoming an actual veterinarian.

Schools
Purdue University; College of Veterinary Medicine Located in
West Lafayette, Indiana.
Iowa Lakes Community College-Emmetsburg, IA. Two-year.
Des Moines Area Community College-Ankeny, IA. Two-year.
Iowa Lakes Community College-Algona Center, Algona, IA.
Two-year.

Do I possess the skills?

I think I possess the skills it takes to be a Veterinarian assistant,
technician, or a technologist because they perform radiology,
nursing care (before and after surgical care,) Anesthesia, Client
education. I would be great at taking care of the animals before
and after

Summary

After doing research I do still think I would consider this career

because I love animals and I think it would be interesting and
something I would probably love doing.
