Wildcat Marching Band
The 1977 University of Kentucky “Wildcat”
Marching Band numbers some 275 members from
almost every college of the University. The members
rnot only come from each geographical area of Ken-
tucky but also from the states of New York, Ohio,
Pennsylvania, West Virginia, North Carolina, Georgio,
Tennessee, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois,
The band is organized into several units, each working
separately on their unique needs before being put
together as a whole. These units, each with a care-
fully selected student leader include the woodwind
blocks, the brass blocks, the percussion section, the
tuba section, the flags, and the majorettes, Each
section in the block has a section leader and a number
of “group leaders designed to give each member as
much individual cttention as possible, These sections
include flutes, clarinets, saxes, trumpets, horns,
trombones, and baritones.
The band hos been on campus since August 21
preparing for the season,
— PREGAME —
The 1977 Pre-game includes a special UK football
medley based on "Rhapsody in Blue.” The medley
includes “Mr. Touchdown, USA," the famous Sousa
march “Washington Post,” ond “Blue Skies." The
highlight of Pregame, of course, is the Marching “K””
‘ond "On, On.”
— HALFTIME —
The “Wildcat” Band presents for their initial
performance this season elaborate contemporary
marching drills designed by Assistant Director Gordon
Henderson. The use of movement to unique musical
arrangements creates pageantry possible only on the
football field, by a college band, for a major college
game. The music includes an English band music
medley, a pop medley of “Lonely Boy’’ and “It Looks
Like the Very First Time,” concert arrangement of
“Looks Like We Made It,"" and a finale of the well-
known Dixieland tune ‘South Rampart Street Parade.””
