Why Study Rinconada


Lit?

A: Because there are literary gems


yet to discover in Rinconada.
A: Rinconada plays a big role in the
resurgence of Bikol Literature.

Rinconada: Sumagang
Rinconada comes from the
Spanish word arrinconada which
means cornered, or from the root
word "rincon" that means "corner
or small district"

Course Description
This three unit course introduces
students to the large and diverse
array of literature produced by
Bikolano writers whose roots are
from Rinconada (Iriga, Baao,Buhi,
Nabua, Bula,Bato, Balatan)

Genres studied include short stories,


drama, poetry and oral narratives.

The course give emphasis to the


ways in which Rinconada authors
have articulated and responded to
issues of identity and
empowerment within the Bikol and
the archipelagic context of
Philippines.

Literary works from Rinconada district
To examine how Rinconada
consciousness is reverberated in the
wider context of Philippine Literature

To interrogate how gender, religion,


ethnicity, power, and colonial
resistance is manifested in
Rinconada Literature.
To understand the theoretical
concepts of race, racism and
racialization as an impetus in the
emergence of Vernacular literature

Non-Content objectives
To develop and sharpen critical
communication skills through
active participation in all class
discussions
