LAW OF GRAVITATIONAL FORCE

Newtons law of gravitational force states that every two particles attract
with one another with a force that is proportional to the product of their masses and
inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. The constant G is
called the UNIVERSAL GRAVITATIONAL CONSTANT.
UNIVERSAL GRAVITATION EQUATION:
From the Law of Universal Gravitation, Newton formulated the Universal Gravitation
Equation, which defines the gravitational force between two objects. The equation is
F= GMm / r2

F is the force of attraction between two objects in newtons (N)

G is the Universal Gravitational Constant = 6.67x10 11 N-m2/kg2

M and m are the masses of the two objects in kilograms (kg)

R is the separation in meters (m) between the objects, as measured from their
centers of mass

PROBLEM #1
In introductory Physics Laboratory. A typical canvenish balance for measuring
the gravitational constant G use lead sphers with masses of 1.50 kg and 15.0 g whose
centers are separated by about 4.50 cm. Calculate the gravitational force between the
spheres. Treating each as a particle located at the sheres center.
GIVEN:
M1= 15 kg = 0.15 kg

M2= 1.5 kg
R= 4.5 cm = 0.45 m
G= 6.67x10-11

SOLUTION:
Fg= G M1M2 / r2
= ( 6.67x10-11)(1.5)(0.15) / (0.45)2
= 7.41 N

PROBLEM #2
Two objects attract each other with a gravitational force of magnitude 1.00x10 -11N. When
separated by 20.0 cm. If the total mass of the two objects is 5.00kg what is the mass of
each.
GIVEN:
F= 1.00X10-8
d=20.0 cm = 0.2 m
M1 = ?
M2 = ?
SOLUTION:
F= (G M1 M2 / d2)
1.00x10-8N = (6.67x10-11Nm2/kg2) (5kg-M2) M2 / (0.2 m)2
(1.00x10-8N) (0.2 m)2 / 6.67x10-11Nm2/kg2 = (5kg-M2) M2
4x10-10 / 6.67x10-11 = (5kg-M2) M2
6 kg2 = (5kg-M2) M2
6 kg2 = -M22 + 5kg M2
M22 5kgM2 + 6kg = 0

(M1 3.00kg) (M2 2.00kg) = 0

Therefore ; M1 = 3.00 kg and M2 = 2.00 kg

UNIFORM CIRCULAR MOTION

HORIZONTAL
When an object is experiencing uniform circular motion, it is traveling in a
circular path at a constant speed. And r is the radius of the path and T is the time
it takes to complete a circle.
And the equation is v= 2 r / T and a= 2 v / T
VERTICAL
Unlike the Horizontal Circular Motion, in Vertical Circular motion the
speed and the direction of the object are changing. And gravity is constant either
speeding up the object as it fall down or slowing the object down as its rise.
CONICAL PENDULUM
The conical pendulum was first studied by the English scientist Robert
Hooke. Conical Pendulum is no air resistance and that the string has no mass
and cannot be stretched. It is a weight connected by a rod with a fixed point; and
revolving in a horizontal circle about the vertical from that point.
