PROCEDURES/ACTIVITIES
PART 1:
Students will work together in teams to complete the following components of the Reality Fair.
Students will research the medium annual salaries for the jobs/careers chosen by the almost 500 middle
school students from the two feeder middle schools. Example 1.
Students will input data into an Excel spreadsheet from the papers from the middle school students. See
Example 2.
Students will learn about taxes from Liberty Tax representatives, Tikisha Rogers and Ernest Green,
owners.
Students will use the http://www.payrollforamerica.com/calculators/Georgia-payroll-calculator.php to
calculate the Federal and State Withholding, Social Security, and Medicare taxes.

Students will create a paycheck stub for each student using mail merge. Example 3.
Students will create a check register for each student using mail merge. Example 4.
Students will organize folders with labels, paychecks, and check registers sorted by school and
teacher.
PART 2:
Students will create brochures on the Business and Technology Pathway spotlighting the three courses
in the Pathway, related careers, and Future Business Leaders of America. Example 5.
Students will create a hands-on activity for the day of the Reality Fair, creating questions and answers
for the related careers and the types of software/documents used in business. Prize Wheel to be utilized
and adapted for Reality Fair. Creating labels.
PART 3:
Students will dress in business attire and represent the Business and Technology Pathway at the Reality
Fair. Interacting with students, explaining the different aspects of the pathway. Example 6.
PART 4:
Students will reflect on their particular parts of the project, what they felt went well and what suggestions
they have for an improved project. Example 7.
PART 5:
Media coverage. Example 8.

2. Create a PowerPoint presentation with the following guidelines:
o Title Slide and Summary Slide
o Six additional slides on your chapter
o Use a design template with a change of colors, font
o Follow PP rules: i.e. 7x7, no sentences (unless quotes)
3. Provide some type of handout that we can complete on your chapter. Some
chapters have activities, if yours does not choose one of the lists and do a fill
in the blank.
4. Present to class on Thursday and Friday, January 22 & 23.
5. Use MLA format and create a paragraph summary of each of the 10 Life
Laws. Need a review of MLA format? Do a google search and find Purdue
University OWL.
6. Turn in all handouts IN ORDER from all chapters with your summary on
the top.
